Lagwagon - "Resolve"

This album is flat out great. Comes out November 1st on Fat Wreck Chords. Definitely nice to have a new studio album from them. Blaze (2003) was good, but Resolve just seems overdue. A nice thing about it is there is a nice little bonus hidden track there which is just a Joey Cape acoustic version of "The Chemist" which is the great song which is only available on their "Live In A Dive" album that came out earlier this year. Resolve is somewhat of a tribute to their original drummer Derrick Plourde who died this year. This album has some more somber songs as you'd expect, but also has some rockers on it which give it a good sense of balance and diversity while maintaining a pretty good level of quality throughout. I definitely say any fan of Good Music™ should pick this up when it drops on November 1st.

REVmote... WTF?

A remote control? Not exactly. This is the "Controller" for the Nintendo "Revolution" and was revealed a day ago at the Tokyo Game Show. "What The Hell" seems to be a common phrase uttered when most people found this out. There are actually motion sensors or gyros or some shit inside it that can detect movement on all three axis. This would be useful for fishing, baseball, and many other types of games. There is also a port at the bottom which enables other items to be hitched to it, such as this analogue stick which would make first person shooters more akin to PC versions which are controlled primarily by a keyboard and mouse. Definitely going to have to have some real demonstrations to fully understand just exactly what Nintendo is trying to accomplish with this, but it seems at least somewhat promising. One thing I really like is that Yuji Naka is reportedly very excited by it. Yuji Naka is the creator of Sonic The Hedgehog, and Samba De Amigo (among others). A NiGHTS sequel would seem like a perfect match for this control method, as would a Samba De Amigo sequel which I've personally been wanting for about five years now. One can hope though. More information and actual demonstrations will take place at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) next May, if not sooner, but right now, much is unclear about this.

Kickoff, Quick Cash, And a New Headset

The Raiders played the Patriots on Thursday. Nice to get the NFL season off to a start. Kerry Collins put up good fantasy numbers (3 TDs, 265 pass yards, 2 rush yards, 1 INT) but beyond that he looked pretty stale. What I mean by "Stale" is he was the most immobile quarterback i've seen in quite some time. He would never leave the pocket even as it would collapse around him. He also tried to hit Randy Moss too often and neglected the other WRs. Overall it wasn't a bad game, but you could tell they were pretty rusty and not ready for the defending Superbowl champs. final score, Pats 30, Raiders 20.

I got a new headset for my cell and for XBOX Live. A Jabra C250. pretty cheap, but actually quite comfy and combined with my phone, extremely loud even on the lowest of settings. That's more my phones fault though. I still wish I had bluetooth though cause cords seem to be going bad on me lately and bluetooth essentially eliminates the need for all cords save for power.

I had to set up the interweb on one of my mother's friends PCs. it took like ten seconds to actually do it, but I went ahead and uninstalled the USB modem driver cause she didn't need it at all and set everything up. got paid 20 bucks for it too. score!

I just noticed my audioscrobbler page was different than it was last time I'd checked it (which was quite some time ago) and I'm not a fan of the colour scheme or style. you can check out the link to the right or just click here. I didn't realize I listen to that much music. wow. at current count it is 27,999 tracks played since January 24th of this year. that doesn't include iPod listening either which would probably add about 25% to that total.

PayPal hates New Orleans

Well, maybe not exactly, but they make it a pain in the ass for someone to set up a successful PayPal donation fund. I'll explain.

Something Awful set up a donation fund through PayPal to give money to the red cross for the efforts to aide the citizens of what was once New Orleans (and the surrounding areas (region?). They used PayPal to get addresses and names from donators so they could provide them with free merch as a reward for being generous human beings. PayPal saw that they were quite successful (30 grand in about 9 hours) so they froze the account. I'll not regurgitate all the details, but suffice it to say that PayPal makes it nearly impossible for honest people to conduct massive donation drives with their service. not because it's incapable of handling it, but because they don't trust people. you can read the rest at their website www.somethingawful.com.

as for me personally, been a pretty mediocre/shitty week. my AC adapter to my laptop now has a short in the cord somehow, as does the headset I use for XBOX Live and for my cellphone. my .mac is going to expire in less than a month, and my XBL in November. I'd sell my semen, but I'm afraid I wouldn't get near enough for it, or selling plasma, but again I'm presented with the same dilemma. If only I were a beautiful woman I could do one of many things. have my eggs harvested and get tons of cash, or whore myself out to horny guys with cash to burn. unfortunately none of those is possible (and frankly the last one is kinda disturbing to think about) so I'll just have to continue my efforts to get a job which thus far have been fruitless and I've not a clue why. Conspiracy? Perhaps. Shitty? Most certainly.

Usual Lawn Maintenance, Blown Transformer, and...Moving?

today I mowed the yard. grass was like six inches high not only our yard, but the neighbor's front yard, but I'll get to that in a minute.

the grass was wet as it had rained off and on for two days, and finally stopped about two days ago. so, the grass clumped and got stuck in the mower and **** so ever few rows I'd have to release the blade lever and dig the **** out. my hand is now all tore up from it, although I don't know why

anyway, I was cutting the back yard grass and my neighbor who I literally have never said a word to, ever (and same for her to me) asked me to cut her grass in the front yard, she paid me fifteen bucks too, which was sweet **** I say. she's cute, looked to be about 24-26. don't even know her name though. I don't know any of the neighbors really but yeah, that got finished and thank god she left her porch light on and the neighbor left his over-the-garage light on so I could see in the total darkness outside. her grass was slightly higher than mine. I had the mower set pretty high for both of our yards though cause seriously, that was some high high grass.

i know, my life is boring as hell, sorry 'bout that.

oh, the transformer blew a while ago in the back yard, so we were without power for like ten hours or so. it was hot as hell. thank god that got fixed. our gate to our backyard is now leaning up against the fence and the metal post in the middle of it was ripped out of the ground and now just literally sits in the hole where it once was. they're sposta send someone out to fix it once the ground dries up, but no telling when that'll be.

I need a job please.

my mother asked me today if I cared if we moved to somewhere else. I was kinda like WTF? but I told her I don't really mind cause she said it would be a bigger city like chicago or new york maybe, which would be ****ing sweet. I've always wanted to go to nueva york, but even at a small of a chance as it is, gotta hope she checks it out. her company is merging and she might just say fuck it and retire from there (24 years of service) and then go work somewhere else (hence the moving) so I'm definitely interested in seeing what (if anything) will come of this. She's probably just talking out of her ass again though, so it's probably just nothing.

Anyhow, First comment I had to delete so far, some long shit about wood. a spammer found this thing apparently. Oh well, easy fix for that. Turning in more apps (turned one in yesterday even) and still can't find shit. What the hell is up with this? I'm not that bad or dumb of a guy (and I'm just drop-dead gorgeous) so I don't see the problem...

Preseason football is underway. pretty good stuff. I mainly follow Tampa Bay (Buccaneers) so my comments will mainly relate to them. 2nd round pick MLB Barrett Ruud (pictured right) looked really sharp in the two games so far. definitely going to continue the tradition of an excellent defense for years to come. 3rd year backup QB Chris SImms looked like shit against Jacksonville, while newcomer Luke McCown looked very good against them. perhaps Simms won't be 'round Tampa for the 06 season.

Not much else to say. 40-year old virgin I saw today. was pretty funny. Nice to see Steve Carell getting some attention. He was a favorite of mine on The Daily Show a while back.

Well, Apple Computer Inc. offered me an interview the other day which I regretfully had to decline. I'd love to have the interview and try to get the job though. can't though because it's in oklahoma city and I'm in Tulsa. I think I did pretty well on the phone interview (hence them offering me a real interview) although I was kinda nervous as I'm an Apple nut.

Hot Hot Heat

I'm sick of it, and it's not even the hottest part of the summer yet. the rest of this week and into next, we're looking to break through into triple digits every day. man, it's bad. Today I mowed the lawn for the first time with the real lawn mower. it was easy as hell, and I broke just as bad of a sweat as usual... and it took about half the time. that's just not right. man it was realy great though. I hadn't done it in like a week and a half though so it was higher than I'd like it, add that with the fact that the other mower doesn't cut near as "low" as this one, and you'll notice that it probably took longer what with all the half-mulch/half-bagging and everything... it'll be much easier next week though and I'll just straight mulch it though. I know, nobody cares but it's a major deal for me, so... go fuck yourself. :)

My mother is bitching at me (as usual) and now states that I must be employed by August 1st or I'll have to do volunteer work 8 hours a day. I have no idea how this shit would work and I attribute it more to her seemingly borderline mental health. The woman is just crazy. perhaps it's the heat.... ....

but yeah, early next week I'll be calling the EB back and although it's a bit earlier than they said, I am now being forced into rushing the process, although that won't necessarily help things at all.

I need to get the hell out of this house.

Finally Got A Real Mower!!!

Bought a Ladder too, but first... the mower.

There it is, the mower that will finally replace the terrible piece of shit I'm using now.. Couldn't be happier about it. You can read all about it here if you feel so inclined. And yes that's an inflated price, typical behavior to make the dealers look better. Anyhow, it will be delivered on wednesday (it wasn't going in the somewhat tiny trunk of our Lexus) and I'll be mowing later this week. Sweetness.

Now, about the ladder. For my fellow insomniacs may recall an infomercial about a ladder that you can fold every which-a-way and shit. well, that's what we got cause:

A: it fits in the car
B: it will serve as any size of ladder we need. the only one we have now is a two story ladder... f-u-c-k-i-n-g HUUUUGE! and is a PITA to get in and out of the garage cause of all the stuff has to be moved...
C: fits in a nice little corner of the garage... standing up approx. three feet tall.

Job Search Update

As I said in my previous update, I had an interview with Arby's. I went back there as I'd not heard anything and been nearly assured the job. I say I'm not too impressed with them. I go back and find that they not only lost the interview notes, but that I had to have another interview... and the lady was a bitch and a half about it too. So, the interview didn't go well although it went great the first time with some guy (I don't recall his name, or hers for that matter). Fortunately I had another interview this week. It was at EB Games. The lady who interviewed me was very nice and seemed like a really easy going person. She was kinda cute too, but that's neither here nor there. Anyhow I was apparently the first one interviewed and was told I'd hear back from her probably end of July/beginning of August. I'll call back around the end of the month and check in on things. I hope I get the job there because it's a much more relaxed atmosphere, and it is dealing with something I actually have an interest in. oh, and no grease burns :p

So, that's the state of things as they currently stand. I really hope I get the job at EB because I'm definitely not impressed with those jerk-offs at Arby's.

Had my interview today at Arby's. went VERY quickly (not even five minutes) and he said I have the job once he submits the stuff to corporate and he'll call me in a day or two or three and let me know. I don't particularly want to work there (who does?) but hey, I definitely need it. That's all for right now. More as I get it.

I finally got a haircut today and shaved and everything. not too shabby I say. Oh, I also got my t-shirt today from FedEx. Well, actually it's from Apple Computer Inc. and delivered via FedEx overnight. For something I'd been helping them out with for the past approx 8 months up 'till April. It's got the dashboard icon on the front and on the back it has a white apple logo centered in the upper back, and below it in orange centered text it says "Dashboard" then right below it in centered white text it says "Where there's a widget, there's a way." and on the next line (again centered) it says "Mac OS X Tiger" So I'm pretty happy about that. Fits nicely and Much thanks to them for it among other things.

oh, and hall of fame football coach Hank Stram died yesterday of complications from diabetes. he is famous for creating the moving pocket, two tight-end formation, stacked defense, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to their first and only two super bowl appearances (winning Super Bowl IV) and being the first coach ever wired for sound during a game (Super Bowl IV).

Decent update! (Bad Religion, Pennywise, and my job hunt)

About damn time too I might add.

I just got a call from a lady at Arby's. I now have an interview scheduled for Tuesday. Hopefully this will pan out for at least a decent part time job.

Now onto the music. I got the new Pennywise album "The Fuse" which is scheduled to be released in August. It's better than From The Ashes, but not up to About Time or Unknown Road for sure. It's definitely a return to faster tempos and more power and to some extent, anger which is a good thing since they'd been slacking off it seems, as of late.

Bad Religion has a busy year ahead of them with their DVD which is set for release sometime in November of this year, and followed by a nice 2006 which will see the release of their next album and Greg Graffin's follow-up to his solo album "American Lesion" which although quality, didn't enjoy good sales. They also have a new Vans Sk8-Hi shoe that was released, and you can read all about it, and order here.

Seriously, 97 degrees fahrenheit tonight...at 7PM! the heat index was over 100. I had to mow the lawn in it too, ugh. In case you don't know, we have one of those shitty lawn mowers. here is what I'm talking about (it's not the right color, and looks a bit different, but you get the idea.

so yeah, that really sucks. hopefully we'll be getting a real lawnmower sometime soon cause this is just a pain in the ass.

my hair is really getting long. it's down to my eye sockets, and when I pull it straight, it's just below my eyes. it's actually a normal length in the back though so it's kinda odd. I didn't like the haircut I got last time but I didn't feel like sitting there fifteen more minutes for the lady to fix it so I said it was fine and got the hell out of there.

I've been listening to "Keep Them Confused" which is the new album from No Use For A Name and it was 12 bucks shipped at www.fatwreck.com so I pre-ordered and it got here the day before it came out so I was pretty happy about that. and all four guys from the band signed it so that's kinda cool too. Check it out, they have a free mp3 on there from For Fiona which admittedly isn't even close to the best song on the album, but it's fine for a general idea of the tone of the album (although it's a tad too sappy for my tastes)

Anyhow, I'm hungry and would like to watch NFL total access (or The Daily Show if it's not on) so I'll wrap this up now.

War Of The Worlds

It's a good movie. How's that for concise 'eh? The voiceover intro/outro were very nice and added a very nice touch to the movie. the atmosphere of the movie was really nice. It was overall pretty creepy and VERY suspenseful. Don't bring your kids, but go see it. There were a few issues they had with consistency concerning their EMPs such as cameras and camcorders working, among other things. Technical oversights aside, it was a nice movie with a somewhat bland ending. Fortunately they didn't decide to do a typical hollywood ending and stuck a bit closer to the book with it, but it still could have used a bit of... I'd say pizzaz, but that's the most gay word ever (nothing against homosexuals, but that word is gay).

I also have to mention I went to Wal*mart to get some chips and stuff today and as usual stopped by their deli and picked up some two pounds of honey barbecue wings (they are SO good) and got the lady to throw in two pizza stick things for free, so kudos to her. Otherwise they would have been thrown in the garbage which is insane for perfectly good food (which I promptly ate upon my return home). The Evil Empire of Retail™ sucks, but some decent people work there. Thanks for the pizza sticks lady!

Apple has released iTunes 4.9 today (Tuesday) and you can now subscribe to and download thousands of podcasts for free via the iTunes Music Store. I've got the This WEEK in TECH podcast, as well as the Inside Mac Radio podcast. I'll also be checking out the ESPN podcast(s). Definitely check this stuff out. it's free, so what do you have to lose?

Not really a whole lot else to say right now. Things are just creeping along at the moment. V-E-R-Y slow for me right now. I am going to see War Of THe Worlds later today (Wednesday) and I suppose I'll be able to post some junk about that. It definitely looks to have a nice atmosphere for the movie. it actually looks a lot better in Real Life™ than in that pic, but that should be good enough for now. Some really cool shit will be coming out for it in the near future. Nintendogs, Meteos, Trauma Center: Under The Knife, Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, etc. The last two (AC and Mario Kart will have wireless online multi-player, while nintendogs will too, to a certain extent. Just use my little Google search box to the right to find some screens and info about the games I listed, they really are going to be stellar.

fixer-upper

last yesterday (that didn't come out as planned...) I went to my mothers friends house and fixed their three computers. one was a PowerMac G4 running Panther (older G4) and one was a gateway (1.8 P4) running Windows ME, and the third was a new Dell laptop running XPsp2. couldn't get them networked on high speed internet at all, the ME box couldn't use the all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/coppier/etc machine correctly, among many other "little" issues I fixed here and there. took three hours by the time I got everything working properly, was always more stuff "on the list"

so, I made 100 bucks off that, although felt kinda bad about taking that much for it, but wouldn't argue about it TOO hard... know what I mean?

I can afford a DS now! woo! A buddy said that next week a DS will come w/ Mario 64 so I'll do that. DS Get!

oh, and I hate Windows ME, and I hate fixing other peoples computers.

Apple has done the unthinkable, switched to Intel processors and has broken the decade old AIM (Apple, IBM, Motorola) alliance. I'd suggest you read this short three page article here about what many Mac users are feeling about this, me included. FUTURAMA IS NOT DEAD!

Best. News. Ever.

I am so excited to hear this news you can't imagine. Apparently there are high level talks with David X. Cohen, Matt Groening, and some high up execs at FOX to bring some new Futurama straight to DVD. This could include three feature length films even! I honestly can't even put into words how excited I am about this. Futurama is without question the BEST television show ever. EVER!

Things may depend on the sales of the DVD sets which so far have done very well. One "Best of" DVD with new commentaries, episode intros and more is yet to be released. It will be called Futurama: The Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection, and is tentitively scheduled for an August 23, 2005 release date in the 'states. I WILL own this. For now, I'll leave you with the box art for it and hopes that the sales of it will be very significant and will possibly persuade FOX to give the green light to much more Futurama goodness.

Star Wars pre-trilogy trilogy +more

It's pretty good. Now that I've seen all three pre-trilogy movies, I have to say that although the first one drags on a bit with that whole thing about "Story" and everything, the other two pick up the slack VERY well. The 3rd one specifically is very action oriented while still maintaining a steady stream of very important plot details and filling in some question marks left by the other five movies. I strongly encourage you to go check out the third movie if you haven't yet. or better yet, wait for all six movies to come out on a massive DVD box set and make a weekend of it. Epic story that spans two generations and a lot of action, drama, and a pretty damn compelling story to boot.

Well, Monday night I got my food handlers permit which will expire in late May of '08. I'll need it if I end up working in an establishment that deals with food, obviously. Either way, can't hurt to have it regardless of wether or not I need it. Was very simple to obtain also. 10 bucks to watch a film and then take a simple 24 question test immediately aftwardards... and being able to miss SIX questions! I missed one and that's because I went back and changed only this answer. Kinda sucks but doesn't affect anything. Ah well. That's all for today I suppose. More whenever.

Oh, and the AC is working again after a several day long hiatus that the Air conditioner decided to take... caused by low freon and the cable that transmitted the power was broke... twenty-five years old the cable was. the AC itself is very new though... a year or two.

Had my second interview at Wendys today. probably won't hear back till Thursday he said cause the other lady is having surgery. This is great news 'cause it'll give me more time to hear back from other places wich I turned in apps at much more recently. some less than 24 hours ago.

I need to replace one of my PowerBook batteries because it being five years old and it hardly holds a charge now... less than half of what my good battery holds.

I watched Star Wars Episode II today in HD... man, that was slick. A very good movie too. Much better than Episode 1 which i watched on my Pismo a day or two ago. Now I need to see Episode III which from the way episode II ended and the way Episode IV starts... is going to be a stellar movie. That's all for now though. More in a day or so.

I'll post specs as soon as they're revealed, presumably later today. one thing is for sure though, besides backwards compatibility with GameCube, it will have an online service similar to XBOX Live, but it will be FREE as opposed to the fifty bucks a year Microsoft charges. it will also feature 802.11 wireless technology for accessing this free online service. Again, more details as they're revealed.

infinitely sexier than the PS3 or the XBOX 360. the PS3 (pictured below) has got to be the ugliest console I've ever seen. the specs are phenomenal, but the performance that SONY is touting I'd definitely take with a jar of salt because they're ALWAYS lied about that, straight up.

HDTV Get!

Well, today we got signed up for the HD pack from Cox Communications. sucks that it costs ten or fifteen bucks more a month (I forget, but believe it's the former) but it does come with a lot of other channels. Sci-Fi, Game Show Network, G4-Tech TV, DIY, ESPN news, ESPN Classics, a ton of nickelodeon channels, BBC America, History International, and a whole slew of others. That's in adition to ESPN HD, Discovery HD, CBS HD, ABC HD, NBC HD and the like.

one problem... the little converter box we got is a piece of shit! it's definitely a hardware issue, error e609 so... any Cox employees can maybe give me the 411 on what exactly the fuck is up with it, please leave a comment (although I doubt there are any Cox employees reading this). At any rate, we'll be dropping this POS off and getting a new converter box for it so it'll be fine. I'm just glad I don't have to re-hook up all those fucking cables! not because it was hard, that was the easy part... the TV just ways I swear to god, 500 fucking pounds! a VERY large CRT, cause when we got it, HD was pretty new and LCD and plasma TVs sucked. CRT still is better than the other two in my book (till OLED anyway).

The remote is big and a terrible layout. did manage to get it configured for the TV and the DVD player very easily though so that was good.

Boolean searcing in Spotlight!

Pretty awesome find considering many were dismayed at the lack of boolean searches with Spotlight.

If you're not familiar with what Boolean searches are, they're essentially searches which can have "and, not, or" and other modifyers like those to help define what items meet the search criteria. pretty nice that it's included, although I have to wonder why there is o mention of it anywhere in their documentation.

You know that whole "Checks and Balances" thing that says the courts can rule a piece of legislation unconstitutional (among other things) right? What if that kinda.... wasn't there anymore?

would make for a decent fiction novel... that is, if it wasn't in danger of becoming true.

There is a nice little part of the constitution Article 3, Section 2:

"In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make."

No congress in history has ever dared use this in a piece of legislation. Well, they just might. How come? well it's tucked away in an Real ID Act portion of a bill to fund the troops... who isn't gonna vote for that? Political suicide! Screw the public, it's all about politics. At any rate, I'll just give you a few links and you can read up on the matter yourself because the senate votes on it tomorrow (wednesday).

I have been looking through the paper and United Ford is hiring car salesmen... I don't think I'd be good for it though because I can't drive. Ars Technica if you only read one OS X review, MAKE IT THIS ONE. it's by far the most detailed review, event hough the left quite a bit of things out (as most places did) but holy shit it's long!
PC World gushing praise for Tiger, but still a terrible review
Anandtech not bad. Not as good as the Ars Technica review, but definitely second best.
Macworld UK a bit better, if only because it points out some subtle yet very important changes and other things you might really want to check out.
The Mac Observer a somewhat odd "positive yet pessimistic" type review, but worth checking out.
Wallstreet Journal Walt Mossberg has been known to sing the praise of Apple's offerings, and he does (to a certain extent) in this review as well.
OSNews not a bad review. 4 pages long and is the 3rd longest review (behind Ars Technica and Anandtech) worth checking out.

It's still at least a year and a half away, but just for the hell of it, I'll run down a few details and a screenshot of what it currently looks like.

as you can see, it's not that attractive. it looks better than XP, but it's got quite a long way to go to be as elegant as Mac OS X is. That being said, let me run down the recommended system requirements (as they currently stand) for you:

CPU:
Desktop Intel: 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with HyperThreading Technology 530 (or higher) or 3 GHz Intel Xeon processor with 2 MB L2 cache
Desktop AMD: AMD Athlon 64, Sempron, or Opteron 100, 200, or 800 processor, single or dual-core versions.

Mobile Intel: 1.86 GHz Intel Pentium M processor 750 (or higher)
Mobile AMD: AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology, Mobile Sempron, or Mobile Athlon 64 processor.

RAM:
512 MB of RAM minimum

it would also be a good idea to have a DX9 GPU.

as you can see, pretty hefty stuff in terms of CPU power, even by todays stuff. It will have a lot of nice features though somewhat justify these lofty requirements. a GPU accelerated UI and a lot of other stuff which you can read about here.

I don't know why I decided to post an entry regarding this because I don't even use Windows unless I have no choice (which is rarely that I have to) but it will be very important for the entire industry.

Class is over, Mac updates?

Class is over for the semester. Finals week is next week. This week will include a lot of resting and studying and stff which will be great cause I don't have to have an actual schedule or anything like that. Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" should be here Friday. it's great, but I just wish Apple would open up that Dashboard widgets download area right now.

PowerMac G5s should be updated in ~12 hours. dual 2.7Ghz appears to be the new top end, along with a dual-layer DVD burner, 512MB of RAM, 256GB HD, Tiger pre-installed and some form of GPU update. it'll be a pretty pathetic update if you ask me. they'd better chop a nice chunk off the price though. Still no dual-core processors yet. MacWorld SF in January '06 would probably be the next place to look for an update to them. iMacs, eMacs, and iBooks are due for an update very soon though as well. We'll just have to wait and see on those though.

Leaked Family Guy Episode

It's called "North By North Quahog" and I'd imagine that it's nothing short of great, just like all three seasons before it. I am so glad Fox did something right for a change and picked this series back up. Now they have to get Futurama back on the air and then all will be forgiven.

iChat: problem solved, 10.4, NFL draft, etc.

I fixed my little iChat problem today. For a while now it would crash on launch and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out I forgot the one thing I should have tried at first, trash the .plist files. Anyway, works like a charm now, I just need to find some people to try the four-way video conferencing w/ iChat 3.0 (included in TIger).

Speaking of Tiger, It's now a week away from retail. I should maybe get my order in soon. won't really matter cause I have it coming to me free anyway, but I do want a boxed copy to leave with my mother and I'll just keep the other one I'll be getting. Again, I can't say enough positive things about Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" because it seriously is a necessary upgrade for all Mac users. boot time is literally CUT IN HALF. That's not even talking about iChat 3, Quicktime 7, Dashboard, Spotlight, VoiceOver, XCode 2, Grapher, Automator, Mail 2, Safari RSS, GCC 4.0, Core Image, Core Video, Quartz 2D Extreme, and a ton of other stuff that just polishes up everything about the OS and the included apps. Oh, and did I mention it's faster? Ok, good.

NFL draft less than 36 hours away people! I've worked out my ideal scenario for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to go in the draft (top three rounds only)

1st round: Mike WIlliams (WR, USC)
2nd round: Charlie Frye (QB, Akron)
3rd round: Vernand Morency (RB, OK St.)

then they have an aging defense they need to get replacements for, along with their O-line. They have some serious salary cap limitations though which is killing them. The next few years will be very interesting for this organization though, that's for sure.

I'm looking at a replacement cell phone. I would be ecstatic with a Treo 650, but I'd almost rather wait on it's eventual successor which Palm is working on right now. Why? simple really, EV-DO! Sprint is switching over to the much faster EV-DO network and this will be nice using Dial-Up Networking via Bluetooth and a PowerBook to surf the web. Sure it violates the terms of service of Sprint, but if you use it fairly lightly that won't be an issue at all. Just don't download movies and stuff over the net and don't try to use it as your ISP and probably be fine. But yeah, the Treo 650 is a sweet phone though, but I'd like to see the internal memory doubled and I'm sure the successor will have more memory as well as "Cobalt" which is Palm OS 6.x so...wait and save I suppose is the game I'm playing right now.

Official retail street date is April 29th, 2005 for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" but it's already out on a lot of the nice BT trackers. except MTKA who is all cozy with Apple now...sellouts. Anyway, Tiger is awesome and I'm telling you, Mac users, you have GOT to get this update. Students can get it for 70 bucks w/ free shipping (plus sales tax) from Apple.

One final thing to note... This is just too funny NOT to mention. Microsoft's "Start Something" add campaign to promote Windows XP which was launched very recently (to counter Tiger's launch?) was actually made on Macs! Redmond, we have a problem.

Damn you Ed, now you got me thinking about it more...

I would like to leave the state. move to one of the coastal states. Washington, California, etc. Tulsa is getting on my nerves. Plus, I'm not going to college anymore after this semester, so I have really no direction in my life and seems as good of a time as any to move on with things and that means relocating possibly. I really have so many question marks about the whole thing though, regardless of wether or not I end up leaving Oklahoma is a moot point in terms of how clueless I am about everything anyway. What am I going to do? Where am I going to live? I just don't see any of it happening in Tulsa. I know it would be pretty difficult, but I have got to do something, and frankly, this seems like the best chance I'll ever have. I am not really tied down with a job or a house or anything like that, but I really just think it's time to get out of Oklahoma. This state seems to be making no progress toward anything good. Tulsa has an incredible amount of potential to be a great place, but they always end up pulling the trigger, but the gun is pointed at their own face every damn time.

Any advice or suggestions for me? Nah, probably not. I'd love to hear 'em though.

Sure to be some exciting stuff come draft day. the Travis Henry situation will be resolved in Buffalo w/ him either going to Arizona or Tampa Bay, or even another team. Will Miami stay in the #2 spot, or will they be able to trade down for a lower 1st round pick, but get some extra picks in later rounds? What the hell is Tampa going to do with their #5 pick? Cadillac Williams? Mike WIlliams? Trade up w/ Miami for #2 and take Alex Smith? who knows, but one thing is for sure, it's gonna make for some good television!

Anyone else have any thoughts on the NFL draft this year?

Today did some more garage clean-outing. sold the drum kit that was in the garage, made several hundred off of it (that I obviously didn't get to pocket) and boxed up a bunch of books. boxes and bags full of 'em. those are gonna get taken in sometime this week as well. Major progress though because of all this stuff. Garage is really a lot bigger than I'd originally thought :)

Home again for the weekend. Saturday I have to again work on cleaning out the garage till some point in the afternoon in which I'll return to the University of Tulsa for the weekend. The NFL draft is a week from saturday... that will be awesome this year. My team (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) need some help from it, and they currently have the 5th overall pick. RUmors circulating all over the place say they may be interested in trading up to the #2 spot which Miami currently has, to get Alex Smith from Utah at QB. good, cause they need a better QB than Greise, and Chris Simms is NOT the guy. Also talk of them getting Travis Henry from the Bills, which would address a need at RB. they have a ton of other picks too to hopefully beef up their WR corps and other areas of need (which they have a few, but mostly other than that they are fine)

Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" was announced this week. 70 bucks w/ .edu discount makes it a steal for me, but I've not placed my order yet pending the outcome of something I'm not really able to talk about right now. If you have a Mac, definitely get this upgrade. that's all I'm going to say for now about this.
